Ireland look to secure home test match vs USA in July

Ireland are looking to secure a home test match against the USA Eagles in July. The possible match comes following the cancellation of Ireland’s tour to Fiji this coming July. In looking to play test matches in July Ireland is now seeking to play at home against Japan and the USA.

The USA Eagles presently do not have any test matches for the July Internationals. The proposal of playing against Ireland would likely be part of a July tour. The working dates for such a tour would clash with the MLR season. As such, teams may lose players to international duty.

The USA was supposed to play host to England, though that possibility will not transpire. Canada will also miss out on playing host to the RWC 2019 finalists. As is the case with Ireland to Fiji, England’s tour to the Americas is off.

Disruptions have also affected South America. Wales’ tour to Argentina and Uruguay is also off. Wales is instead seeking to play host to Argentina in July. The Western British union is also interested in a home match against one of Canada or the USA.

Japan are to be in the UK on June 28. The RWC 2019 hosts will play against the British & Irish Lions on that date at Murray Field Stadium in Edinburgh, Scotland. The Lions will then travel to South Africa for their tour.
