Brock Staller and Stephan Coetzee exit Seattle

Brock Staller and Stephan Coetzee are no longer with the Seattle Seawolves. The two-time Major League Rugby champions have confirmed the departure of the two players who had previously been announced as returning in 2021. Staller has returned to Canada and Coetzee his native South Africa.

Both have been first choice players for the club since their arrival. Staller was signed on ahead of 2018 and has been a staple in the No14 shirt with his goal-kicking exploits making him the second-leading scorer in MLR history. Coetzee was the starting hooker in the 2019 MLR Shield final and played three matches in 2020 after recovering from injury.

The Seawolves have signed Namibia international Obert Nortjé to play hooker but are now short a third specialist at the position. With Jeff Hassler also departed, there is a shortage of wingers at the club and rumors from Japan suggest former Brave Blossoms flyer Akihito Yamada could soon be on the way.
