LA secures USA u20 flyer Ryan James from Dallas Jackals

The LA Giltinis have signed USA u20 Ryan James for the 2021 Major League Rugby season. His rights were acquired in the recent supplementary draft to disperse players who had previously been signed by the withdrawn Dallas Jackals expansion side.

James, 21, was on the books for the Colorado Raptors in 2020, making his professional debut as a replacement against the Toronto Arrows in the final week of the season. The speedy outside back was in his second stint at Glendale, spending the 2019 season with the San Diego Legion academy program.

A three-time High School All-American, James was called into the senior Eagles Sevens training camp as a 17-year-old in November 2016. In 2019 he was selected on the right wing for the Junior All-American side in their series against Canada u20. James also qualifies for Samoa via his mother.

The announcement follows that of fellow Dallas signing Cristian Rodriguez to LA’s roster for their inaugural campaign. Rodriguez adds depth at scrumhalf with both he and James capable of providing cover at fullback for Scottish recruit Glenn Bryce.
