Brazilian SLAR team to be coached by Emiliano Bergamaschi

Emiliano Bergamaschi will coach Brazil’s team in the 2021 Súper Liga Americana de Rugby (SLAR). The 44-year-old replaces Fernando Portugal who is now the head coach of Brazil’s test team, Os Tupis.

Bergamaschi has great rugby pedigree both as a player and as a coach. He played as a professional in England beginning in 2002 for the Bristol Bears and Saracens, and in France for Rouen. He also was selected for his country and played in one official test match, facing the USA in 2001.

In 2008 Bergamaschi turned to coaching. He was an assistant coach to Daniel Hourcade with Los Pumas at RWC 2015. In the 2020 SLAR he was an assistant to Raúl Pérez at the Olímpia Lions.

Bergamaschi is one of five Argentines confirmed as Head Coaches of teams for the 2021 SLAR season. Pablo Bouza coaches Peñarol (Uruguay), Raúl Pérez coaches the Olímpia Lions (Paraguay), Nicolás Bruzzone coaches Selknam (Chile), and Rodolfo Ambrosio will coach Los Cafeteros Pro (Colombia).

Unconfirmed is the head coach of the Argentine team. Also yet to be finalized is the team name of the franchises from Argentina and Brazil.
