ARN Player of the Week – Manuel Ardao

This past weekend featured a variety pack of rugby action with Americas involvement spread all over the globe. There was a test match in Montevideo, a Tri Nations warm-up in Sydney, the World Tens Series in Bermuda, the Premier 15s in England, some Top 14 games in France, and the Mitre 10 Cup in New Zealand. Ruben de Haas made his Super Rugby Unlocked debut in South Africa.

A handful of Pumas put their hand up for selection against the Australia XV, among them Domingo Miotti and Santiago Chocobares. Canada’s Kyle Baillie was the pick of the pack at the World Tens. Emily Tuttosi and Gabby Cantorna impressed for Exeter, and Tony Lamborn was the leading man in Southland’s upset derby win over Otago.

Test rugby is the pinnacle, however, and that gives our choice a leg up if he needed one. Manuel Ardao has been slowly groomed as the successor to Juan Manuel Gaminara as Uruguay’s starting openside flanker. Against Spain he was a pest at the breakdown and was effective as a link man in the loose, earning man-of-the-match plaudits. The 22-year-old is our choice as ARN Player of the Week.
