Coleman leads Gordon to Shute Shield crown

Darren Coleman will depart Australian rugby on a high. The incoming LA Giltinis coach saw his Gordon team cap their triumphant Shute Shield campaign with a dominant 28-8 victory over Eastwood in the Grand Final at Leichhardt Oval on Saturday.

Gordon finished the regular season as the top seeds with a 11-1 record. They survived a scare from Randwick in the preliminary finals before defeating Easts in the Semi Finals. It’s the second Shute Shield title for Coleman having led Warringah to glory in 2017.

The Sydney-based competition featured a number of Major League Rugby players throughout the campaign. Seeing action in the post-season were former Free Jacks flanker Brad Hemopo with Norths, Old Glory prop Jake Turnbull with Randwick, and new LA hooker Lindsey Stevens with Easts.
