Former Springboks winger Bjorn Basson joins San Diego

The San Diego Legion have signed South African winger Bjorn Basson for the 2021 Major League Rugby season. He makes the extreme journey from Siberia to California having most recently turned out for Russian club Enisei STM in the European Challenge Cup.

Basson has been a professional since 2008 when he made his senior provincial debut for Griquas. He is a Super Rugby centurion having turned out for the Cheetahs, Bulls, and Stormers while also enjoying stints in Japan with Honda Heat and France with Oyonnax.

The 33-year-old made his test debut for the Springboks in 2010 and won 11 caps, his last coming against Argentina in 2013. Basson also played twice against the British & Irish Lions on their 2009 tour, turning out for both the Royal XV and the Emerging Springboks.
