Free Jacks name Ryan Martin as new Head Coach

The New England Free Jacks have named a new Head Coach for the 2021 Major League Rugby season. Ryan Martin has been signed on a three-year contract, taking over from Josh Smith who has held the position since the inception of the team in 2018.

Smith will continue to be involved as Director of New England’s senior development program – the Independents. The Free Jacks release also indicates that Martin will also assist Smith in development throughout the New England region.

Martin arrives from New Zealand where he has been the Attack Coach for Otago’s Mitre 10 Cup team since 2018. He has also served as a Skills Coach for the Melbourne Rebels in Super Rugby and as Head Coach of the Asia Pacific Dragons in Global Rapid Rugby.

Martin’s expertise has also seen him featured on prominent video education page TheRugbySite.

The Free Jacks have simultaneously released a video interview with their new Head Coach in conversation with the team’s Performance Analyst Tom Kindley. That video can be seen below.
