Argentine and Colombian named in L’Equipe Top 14 Team of the Season

An Argentine and a Colombian have been named by L’Equipe in the Top 14 team of the season. The team was selected based on 17 rounds of the 2019-2020 season. Selection for the line-up was base on statistics from the season.

Argentine winger Santiago Cordero led the statistics for his position. It saw his move from the Exeter Chiefs be highly successful, making him a rare player to appear in the team of the season in back-to-back years in different elite competitions.

Cordero scored six tries in the 2019-2020 season for Bordeaux. This was matched by fellow Argentine winger Juan Imhoff. Both men missed out on places in Mario Ledesma’s squad for RWC 2019 with Jaguares center Matías Moroni playing out of position instead.

Joining Cordero in the Top 14 team of the season is a second South American, Andrés Zafra. The first ever Colombian to play in France has demonstrated that he is not in the country for a learning experience. He is in France because he is exceptionally talented.

Zafra and fellow Agen second-rower Tom Murray lock the scrum together for the Top 14 team of the season. Colombian supporters would love to see Zafra back playing for Los Tucanes, however patience is required. Due to the dates of the season, Zafra.cannot play for Colombia. This underlines the need for World Rugby to implement a global season.
