North American talent combine set for June in Utah

Salt Lake City will host a week-long World Rugby combine for promising North American men’s talent beginning on June 21. The combine will bring together nominated players from Canada and the USA to train under elite high performance coaches in front of international and Major League Rugby scouts.

It follows previous editions held at Infinity Park, the inaugural Rugby Americas combine in 2018 and the North American combine in 2019. World Rugby has also funded similar combines for Pacific Island talent held in Suva, Fiji, in both 2018 and 2019.

USA Rugby has announced an additional two-day ‘preliminary event’ in Honolulu, Hawai’i, beginning on May 1 that is geared towards identification of potential crossover athletes. Select players from that event will be invited to attend the combine in Utah.

A new USA national academy program has also been unveiled. World Rugby will fund a 10-week high performance program that will run from August 10 – October 19, with selected athletes exposed to a daily training environment at Glendale.

Nomination forms for both the Honolulu and Salt Lake City event are now open.
