Guatemala defeated El Salvador this afternoon in what was the first ever women’s test match involving Central American countries. International competition officially therefore began for women’s rugby between neighboring countries Guatemala and El Salvador, as well as for the region as a whole.

The date of the match was chosen to mark the occasion of International Women’s Day. Guatemala were 50-5 winners in what was a full international under standard rules.

The match was played at the Erick Barrondo Parque in Guatemala City.
