Rugby ATL signs Southland No8 Bill Fukofuka

Rugby ATL have signed Southland Stags No8 Bill Fukofuka for the remainder of the 2020 Major League Rugby season. The 24-year-old is immediately available for the club and will make his debut in Sunday’s match against Rugby United New York.

It’s the second professional stint in the USA for Fukofuka. The Tonga u20 international was a standout with the San Francisco Rush during the 2016 PRO season, starting seven of their last eight games before returning to New Zealand.

Since making his Southland debut as a 19-year-old in 2014 Fukofuka has played more than 50 games in New Zealand’s provincial competition and was named club MVP for the 2017 season. He was selected for the Ikale Tahi’s European tour in 2016 but was a late withdrawal and has yet to make his test debut.

Meanwhile ATL have confirmed that Frederick Henry-Ajudua is no longer with the club. The 26-year-old former CFL player lined up as a blindside flanker in the preseason win over NOLA. A reason was not given for his departure.
