Montevideo Challenger Series: Chile, Jamaica and Uruguay into Quarter Finals

Day One of the Montevideo Challenger Series saw mixed results from the Americas’ competitors. Not he one hand, Chile, Jamaica and Uruguay all impressed and will compete in the Quarter Finals on Sunday. On the other hand, Brazil, Colombia and Paraguay all lost all three of their matches.

In Pool A Germany backed up from Viña del Mar by winning all matches today. The Central Europeans defeated Mexico, Papua New Guinea and Uruguay to top the group. Los Teros 7’s claimed wins over Mexico and Papua New Guinea to finish second, while Mexico knocked-over Papua New Guinea to finish third in the pool.

Brazil and Jamaica were the Americas’ representatives in Pool B. Os Tupis were humbled with no wins, a continuation of their performance from Viña del Mar. Jamaica defeated Brazil as well as Uganda to claim second spot in the pool, while Hong Kong finished top with wins against all opponents.

In Pool C Paraguay were the one Americas competitor. They had a winless day in dropping matches against Italy, Japan and Zimbabwe. The Italians and Japanese reached the Quarter Finals.

Tonga were Pool D winners with wins over Chile, Colombia and Portugal. Los Cóndores Sevens claimed two wins to also reach the Quarter Finals, while Portugal defeated Los Tucanes 7’s to see the Colombians winless on day one.

Day two will begin with Colombia facing Mexico in a 9th Place Quarter Final.
