Peñarol signs giant South African lock Louis Conradie

Peñarol have added South African lock Louis Conradie to their roster for the inaugural Súper Liga Americana de Rugby season. The 23-year-old, who stands a towering 6’8″ (2.04m), has already arrived in Montevideo and begun training with his new team.

The globe-trotting Conradie arrives from New Zealand where he started five games for Otago in the Mitre 10 Cup. Previous to that he played alongside Peñarol hooker Sefo Sakalia at the Asia Pacific Dragons in Singapore, moving to Global Rapid Rugby after two seasons with the Cheetahs.

Conradie brings desired height to the side with Colombia’s Danny Giraldo the only other lock of genuine international size at the club. The Pablo Bouza-coached side is now into their third week of training with their first regular season match slated for March 4 against Chilean franchise Selknam.
