Leicester Tigers Interested In Matías Alemanno

The Leicester Tigers are interested in signing Matías Alemanno. The English Premiership side are looking to add him to their roster when his contract with the UAR expires in twelve months time.

Alemanno still has plenty of years left in him despite already having had appeared in two Rugby World Cups. The 28-year-old earned his 61st cap in Argentina’s most recent test match, a RWC pool match against the USA in Kumagaya, Japan.

The match was Alemanno’s one start of RWC 2019 but he appeared in all four of his team’s matches. Against France, Tonga, and England Alemanno was a replacement second-rower with Guido Petti, and Tomás Lavanini being the starting combination.

Lavanini was sent-off in the match against England. This saw his next fixture being in England, for his new club the Leicester Tigers. A move for Alemanno from Los Jaguares to the Leicester Tigers would see him reunited with Lavanini.

The Leicester Tigers are also presently the home of two other Argentine forwards – Gastón Corteés and Facundo Gigena. Cortés earned the most recent of his five test caps in the 2018 Rugby Championship. Gigena remains uncapped though met with Mario Ledesma about possibly playing in RWC 2019.

Alemanno is one of five second-rowers named by Gonzalo Quesada for the 2020 Super Rugby campaign. The others are Ignacio Calas, Marcos Kremer, Lucas Paulos, and Guido Petti. Calls is presently injured which saw Rodrigo Fernández Criado join the roster this past week as cover.
