Dominican Republic Claim Win Over British Virgin Islands

Six days out from the start of the Rugby World Cup in Japan there was a test match in the Caribbean. The Dominican Republic played host to the British Virgin Islands today in Santo Domingo.

The home side would score all of the points in claiming a 15-0 victory at Saint George School. For Los Tainos it saw their long-awaited Americas Rugby North (RAN) Cup match against the British Virgin Islands taking place at last.

The fixture was the second of two in the RAN North Cup following the test match in April in which the Turks & Caicos Islands scored a last minute win over the Dominican Republic.

Today’s fixture was promoted in conjunction with the British and Japanese embassies.  The triangular operation helped not only promoted today’s match but also draw attention to the global showpiece which begins on Friday with Japan vs Russia in Tokyo.
