RWC Rewind Argentina: Martín Terán vs Australia in 1991

During the final weeks of waiting for Rugby World Cup 2019 to arrive Americas Rugby News will be taking a look back at some moments from past RWCs involving competitors from the Americas. In week four the feature team is Argentina.

In day one of the series the feature is Martín Terán against Australia in 1991. The Argentine winger crossed for two tries, both of which showed the right winger getting the better of the Wallabies defense.

From Tucumán, Terán would play 30 test matches for Los Pumas and appear in two RWC tournaments. His test debut was against New Zealand in Buenos Aires two months before RWC 1991. His performances were impressive at RWC 1991 as he also scored against Samoa.

RWC 1991 was the second tournament in Rugby World Cup history. It was England 1991 though it was spread across the UK and France. Argentina’s three pool matches would all be played in Wales. The match against Australia opened the pool and took place at Stradey Park in Llanelli. Australia’s 32-19 win was the start of the Wallabies’ undefeated campaign with them becoming the 1991 RWC champions.
