Sevens Series moves to LA, Women’s circuit expands

World Rugby have confirmed the schedules for the 2019-20 World Sevens Series. They have also unveiled the new home of the USA stop on the men’s circuit. Previously held at Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas, the tournament has been moved to Dignity Health Sports Park in Los Angeles.

Also notable is the expansion of the women’s circuit from six to eight events, with six stops acting as combined men’s and women’s stops. Separate events for the men include Los Angeles, Vancouver, Singapore, and London. Separate events for the women will be Glendale and Langford.

Achieving men’s core status for the first time are Ireland, while Brazil have returned to women’s core status. As per last season there will be 15 men’s core teams and 11 women’s core teams with one invitational side per round.

With the 2018-19 season doubling as an Olympic qualifier, the 2019-20 season will act as final preparation for the 2020 games in Tokyo. The Rugby Sevens event at the Olympics will take place from July 27 to August 1 of next year.
