Toulon Sign Sergio Parisse

Less than a week after departing Stade Français Sergio Parisse has been signed by rivals Toulon. The Argentine-Italian will join the Mediterranean club following RWC 2019 in Japan on a one-year contract, Toulon has confirmed.

Aged 35, Parisse is regarded as the greatest Italian player of his generation. He is also the most capped test player in Italian rugby history. With 138 caps he is ten behind Richie McCaw’s all-time test record of 148 caps.

Parisse departed his home country of Argentina at the age of 17. He moved to Italy with his Italian parents and quickly went on to rise to the top. He was both a professional player and a capped international while still a teenager.

He began playing professional rugby in Italy for Benetton Treviso in 2002. In 2005 he would move to France to join Stade Français for whom he would captain and win both the Top 14 and the European Challenge Cup. The UAR regard Parisse as the biggest loss ever to Argentine rugby.
