van der Merwe makes early injury return for Glasgow

DTH van der Merwe will make a surprise return to the Glasgow Warriors lineup for their Guinness Pro 14 Semi Final match against Ulster on Friday. The Canadian winger had shoulder surgery in February and was due to miss the remainder of the season but will suit up for the Warriors well ahead of schedule.

It’s more good news for Canadian fans who last week were gifted with the news of Jeff Hassler’s return to the sport after a self-imposed exile of several months. van der Merwe is one of Canada’s all-time great attacking players and is expected to play a leading role for his country in the upcoming World Cup.

Primarily a left wing for both club and country, van der Merwe has also been used successfully as an outside center for Canada. With Hassler back in the picture and Castres star Taylor Paris also in contention among others, it could be the No13 shirt that van der Merwe wears in Japan.
