Old Glory signs former Packers tight end Ryan Smith

Old Glory DC have confirmed another name for their upcoming exhibition series. Ryan Smith will play for the side, a collegiate football standout with the Miami RedHawks who played four NFL preseason games for the Green Bay Packers in 2018 after signing as an undrafted free agent.

Originally from River Forest, Illinois, Smith played three seasons of high school rugby as a No8 for Fenwick Friars before accepting a gridiron scholarship with the RedHawks. He returned to the rugby pitch during his final year at the Ohio college.

At 6’4″ (1.94m) and nearly 260 lbs (118kg) the 23-year-old brings impressive size and athleticism to the DC forward pack. Old Glory will play five exhibition matches in the spring beginning on May 19 as a precursor to becoming a full member of Major League Rugby for the 2020 season.
