Bermuda Host Jamaica in RAN Promotion / Relegation on Saturday

Saturday sees Bermuda playing host to Jamaica in an international test match. The fixture is a RAN promotion / relegation match to determine who will play in this year’s RAN Championship division.

Bermuda have home advantage for the fixture and new Head Coach Jamie Barnwell has fresh blood for the match-up. Of his 32-man roster twelve players are uncapped. This is part of building for the future and also due to injuries with Ben Green and Mike Kelley notably missing.

For Bermuda the match is long overdue. It is to be their first home game against Jamaica since 1975. They will do so at Bermuda’s National Stadium.

In the 2018 RAN Championship Bermuda fell to a 48-28 loss against the USA South Panthers; a 27-24 loss against Trinidad & Tobago; and a 20-19 loss against the Cayman Islands.

Jamaica competed one division lower in the RAN Cup. They did so against Barbados whom they defeated 37-29, and 50-14 in the two-match series. Having won they earned the right to compete for promotion to the 2019 RAN Championship.
