Berna and Fauilefau return for Hamilton Sevens

Damian McGrath has named a squad of 14 players to represented Canada on the South Pacific legs of the HSBC Men’s Sevens Sevens. The first is in Hamilton, New Zealand, this coming weekend with the second stop kicking off a week later in Sydney, Australia.

Two forwards have been taken off the disabled list. Mike Fuailefau is back for the first time this season and Phil Berna returns to contention after spending the best part of a year on the sidelines. New to the group are powerful winger Cole Davis, already capped in XVs, and 18-year-old playmaker Brock Webster. Both earned selection after impressing at the Sudamérica Sevens.

Missing out are three injured players. Regular skipper Harry Jones and prop Admir Cejvanovic are expected to be fit for the North American leg, while halfback Lucas Hammond is targeting a return in Hong Kong. Andrew Coe will travel with the XVs to South America, and Cooper Coats is training with the centralized program in Langford.

Canada enters the tournament ranked 12th overall after collecting 5 points in each of Dubai and Cape Town. They have been drawn in Pool D at Hamilton along with New Zealand, Spain, and Japan. All matches will be streamed live on the CBC Sports Website.
