Gonzalo Camacho Retires

At the age of 34 Gonzalo Camacho has retired. The aggressive Argentine winger has hung up his boots but will remain actively involved with rugby as he turns to coaching.

A regular in Los Pumas from 2009-2013, Camacho earned 24 test caps for his country. He would have had many more had it not been for a serious shoulder injury which cut short his playing opportunities as a professional and a test player.

Two years out from RWC 2015 it looked clear that Camacho would be starting in a second RWC tournament. Instead he was unfit with veteran Horacio Agulla ultimately playing in his third following Camacho’s continued struggles with injury.

Camacho’s final cap was against Australia in 2015. It was his only test following his serious injury suffered against New Zealand two years earlier. Of his 24 caps 23 of them were in the starting lineup and he scored 6 test tries.

Camacho played professionally in the English Premiership from 2009-2016. He played for the Harlequins, Exeter Chiefs and the Leicester Tigers. His career began at BACRC and that is where his coaching career is to now begin.
