Chilean Makes Debut in England

This past weekend saw a Chilean player making his debut appearance in England. The five-time capped Cóndor Germán Herrera started for Peterborough in a 31-29 losing effort against Medley Park. The match was a part of England’s National 2 North competition – the fourth division.

Herrera comes from one of Chile’s traditional clubs – Old John’s. With strictly amateur rugby remaining in Chile his playing in England is hugely beneficial to him personally as well as giving Chile additional options.

In 2010 Herrera debuted for Chile. His first appearance saw him starting at fullback against Tonga. His next cap was in 2012 with him starting at center, the position where he faced both Paraguay, and Uruguay in 2016. His remaining cap saw him playing wing against Spain in 2013.

Next up for Herrera and his club is a home match against Otley. The opposition is another from Northern England. Outlay’s Cross Green hosted USA vs Italy, a pool match during RWC 1991.
