Costa Rica Crowned Champions At Home

Costa Rica were crowned champions at home. The hosts of the 2018 Central American Women’s tournament celebrated the tie title won at the Parque Metropolitano La Sabana.

Las Guarias were joined by a second Costa Rican side, the Barbarians, as well as Guatemala and Panama in the tournament.

Costa Rica’s title was secured with a nail-bitting 15-12 victory over Guatemala while Panama claimed third position.

The battle for third spot saw the Panamanian Diablos taking a 5-0 lead into half time. They would then be matched 5-5 in the second half by the Barbarians while saw Panama claiming Bronze with a 10-5 win.

In the tournament final Costa Rica ran in two unconverted tries compáred to one converted score from Las Jagaures. With it Las Guarias held a 10-7 advantage at the interval.

In the second half Costa Rica started strongly. Phases of possession led to Las Guarias crossing for a crucial score to open up a 15-7 lead. The Guatemalans would fight back to make it a 15-12 margin in the final stages.
