El Salvador Down Honduras in a Thriller

El Salvador downed neighbors Honduras in a thriller, winning 27-24. The fixture was the second of three matches in the 2018 Centroamericano, the rebranded South American C Championship.

In the opening match Honduras hosted Panama. At the game’s midway point Honduras were well placed, leading 20-12. Panama, though, mounted a come back and went on to win the match 39-27.

Today’s match was the second for Honduras and the first for El Salvador. It brought to an end Honduras’ campaign – two competitive matches which could have been two wins. Instead they end the campaign with a 0-2 return.

Played at the Cancha de la Escuela Militar in San Salvador, the hosts went into an 11-5 half time lead. After completion of the second half the lead had been reduced to three with Los Torogoces celebrating a 27-24 victory.

The result will see El Salvador gaining points in the Americas Rankings. Updated on Sunday the new rankings will see El Salvador and Honduras exchanging points.

The 2018 Centroamericano will conclude next Saturday. In the final match of the competition Panama will have home advantage against El Salvador. With both teams having beaten Honduras the match is to be a tournament final.
