Colombia Claim Double Gold at CAC Games in Barranquilla

Colombia have claimed Double Gold at the 2018 CAC Games in Barranquilla. Following on from Las Tucanes winning Gold by defeating Venezuela in the Women’s tournament final, the men have made it a double by defeating Mexico in the final to give Colombia two Gold Medals in the CAC Rugby 7’s.

Colombia and Mexico met in the final after winning their respective matches earlier on in the day. They were both also impressive on Day One of the tournament.

Colombia was the Top Seed in the Quarter Finals. This saw Los Tucanes beginning Day Two by facing Guatemala. The Colombians were impressive against Los Jaguares, winning 24-0. From there they played even better, accounting for Jamaica 26-0 in the Semi Final.

Mexico’s path to the final began by facing Venezuela on Day Two. Las Serpientes ran riot against Venezuela, winning 31-0. They then came close to matching it in the Semi Final where they won 29-5 against Trinidad & Tobago.

In the final Colombia went 14-7 up at half time. Both Colombia and Mexico scored a converted try in the second half. With it Colombia went on to win the match 21-14 and claim the Gold Medals. The Bronze Medals went to Jamaica who brushed Trinidad & Tobago aside in a 26-5 performance.
