Montero Handed 6 Week Suspension

Manuel Montero has been handed a 6 week suspension. The Argentine left winger has been suspended by URBA – Buenos Aires Rugby for a high tackle on Franco Moneta.

Having made a break Frano Moneta was close lined by a covering Montero. Contact was made in the form of a swinging arm to Moneta’s head. The Buenos Aires disciplinary committee utilized the video evidence to determine it was not only a red card but also a six week ban.

Montero’s 6 week suspension comes at a time in which he is on his way back into the frame for Los Jaguares and Los Pumas. He recently played for the Argentina XV in the Nations Cup in Uruguay.

With a long season still to come Argentina will be in need of enforcements. The Rugby Championship will see six matches taking place and Los Pumas will subsequently play four matches as part of the November Internationals.

Montero joined Tomás Cubelli, Matías Moroni, and Juan Manuel Leguizamón in the Nations Cup. All of them are in the frame for inclusion for international duty this year. Matera earned the most recent of his 27 caps against Australia in Canberra as part of the 2017 Rugby Championship.
