Brazil to Host World Rugby Junior World Trophy in 2019

Brazil is to host the World Rugby Junior World Trophy in 2019. The unprecedented move sees South America’s country set to host the tournament for the first time in history.

World Rugby also confirmed Romania as the host of this year’s competition. The 2018 edition will take place at the Stadionul National Arcul de Triumf in Bucharest from August 28 to September 09.

Brazil has been both awarded and encouraged by World Rugby. Having demonstrated incredible progress the world’s fifth largest country is now to have its development further encouraged.

The 2019 World Rugby Junior World Trophy will be played at the Estádio Martins Pereira in São José dos Campos, the heartland of Brazilian rugby. The tournament will take place from July 09-21 in 2019.

The 2018 Junior World Trophy will feature eight teams. The last to qualify is Canada who did so after defeating the USA 82-62 on aggregate.

Canada are to compete in Pool B of the 2018 Junior World Trophy. They are to go up against Fiji, Portugal, and Uruguay. In Pool A hosts Romania will take-on Hong Kong, Namibia, and Samoa. .

The winner of the 2018 U20’s Trophy will earn promotion to the 2019 World Rugby U20 Championship. They will switch places with Japan who finished last in the recently completed U20’s Championship which was won by hosts France. The 2019 competition will be played in Argentina.
