Argentina u20 complete crucial win over Scotland

Los Pumitas remain alive in the World Rugby u20 Championship. This morning in Perpignan, France, Argentina completed a crucial win over Scotland. The 29-13 victory was by a comprehensive four tries to one.

Argentina dominated the opening half. Yet it was in the second half in which Los Pumitas won the match. In the first half Los Pumitas ran in two tries, with outside center Juan Pablo Castro and right winger Leopoldo Herrera both scoring. Fly half Juan Bautista Daireaux converted one of the two and also landed a penalty.

Scotland’s points came in the form of a converted try. The score came via fly half Callum McLelland and would be the only try from the Northern European’s in the match. Scrum half Charlie Chapman added the conversion.

In the second half Scotland started strongly, playing the better rugby in the game’s third quarter. Yet despite having the upper hand the Scot’s were unable to penetrate the defense of Los Pumitas. This meant that points would come in the form of penalties with Chapman landing two.

The ability of Argentina to not concede tries was crucial. It helped them complete the win over Scotland by hitting back with two tries. Scoring was left winger Mateo Carreras and Argentina was also awarded a penalty try.

The World Rugby U20 Championship continues on Thursday. Los Pumitas will play in their third, and final, pool match. Argentina’s opponents are to be Italy, a side who upset Scotland in their opening fixture. Also on Thursday Scotland will take on the auld enemy, England.
