Bolivia has joined Sudamérica Rugby, effective immediately. The Federation Boliviana de Rugby (FBR) has been officially accepted by Sudamérica Rugby as an associate member.
The landlocked South America country is the final South American country to join the regional governing body. Bolivia joins Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela in Sudamérica Rugby.
Founded in 2009, the FBR joined Sudamérica Rugby this as part of this week’s General Assembly. The convention contained representatives from 15 countries in what was the 29th General Assembly of the region.
Bolivia has a population of 10.9 million. At the present there are fourteen rugby clubs in the country, with the sport played in six cities. Involved in rugby are 676 players, 35% of whom are juniors and 21% are women.
