Creevy Says Pumas can beat New Zealand

Argentine captain Agustín Creevy says his team can beat New Zealand, reports Nigel Yalden. Talking to the New Zealand Herald Creevy highlighted the difficulty his team is up against but is clear in a win not being insurmountable.

For Creevy a win over New Zealand is the one remaining accomplishment. Others have been ticked off. When New Zealand host Argentina tomorrow it will make 31 years since the teams competed to a 21-21 draw in Buenos Aires.

Argentina had a realistic opportunity to win and arguably ought to have done so. The scoring machine of Hugo Porta spearheaded Los Pumas back then and on the eve of the 2016 Rugby Championship match in Hamilton he turns 65.

In looking back to Porta and 1985 Creevy said “That’s why it’s such a huge challenge for us, but we believe that if we do things really well, if we have the perfect game, we can beat them even knowing they are one of the best teams in the world.”

Saturday’s match will be the first of two between the countries in the 2016 Rugby Championship. Kick-off is scheduled for 4:30am Argentine time.
