Head coach Liam Middleton has made two changes to his Canada squad for the next round of the HSBC World Sevens Series. Mike Fuailefau and Nanyak Dala return to fitness to take their spots in the 13-man roster for Sydney. Sean Duke, who was a late scratch from Wellington, has returned home along with Phil Berna, who joins up with the national u20 squad in preparation for their qualifier against the USA on February 13. Justin Douglas, Mitch Santilli, Conor Trainor, and Liam Underwood continue their rehabilitation from injury.
Canada’s tough start to the 2015-16 campaign continued in Wellington, losing heavily to Kenya in their opening match and finishing with a loss to Samoa in the Bowl semi-final. An 11th place finish puts them in 12th overall after three tournaments. Berna and Luke McCloskey made their series debuts, only the latter remains this week.
The Sydney tourney kicks off on Saturday, February 6, and can be watched live on the World Rugby website starting late Friday evening Canada time. Canada are in Pool A, along with New Zealand, Australia, and Portugal.
