BEARS v ROCK
10:00 BC / 11:00 local / 13:00 ET / 14:00 AT / 14:30 NF

The Bears look to rebound from their dismal showing against the Wolf Pack against a defiant Rock side who themselves fell heavily to the Blues.

BC head coach Dean Murten has made five changes and one positional switch. Port Alberni’s Cody McClary takes over at tighthead in place of Ryan Ackerman; Jorden Sandover-Best swaps jerseys with James Pitblado; Kimi Vunituraga and Karsten Leitner are the new wingers; and Adam Timler starts at centre with Sean Ferguson moving back to his more accustomed fullback position.

Keenan Horton slides to the bench, and Crosby Stewart is included after being left out of Sunday’s game. Nolan McAllister and Caleb Hansen drop out of the match day squad altogether.

The Rock will start PEI native Alex Forrest at loosehead prop instead of Frank Walsh, and Matt Heaton starts on the flank, with an interesting arrangement between Zac Coughlan and Mike Hamson seeing the former play at no8 on offense, and switching to the second row on defense. Evan Dickie drops to the bench to make room for Heaton.

Jordon Power and Colin Alexander are under injury clouds with late decisions to be made over their availability after the warm-up.

BC won both meetings in last year’s competition, recording an overwhelming 63-6 score at Klahanie Park, followed by a narrow 26-20 win at Swilers in St. John’s.

BLUES v WOLF PACK
12:00 BC / 13:00 local / 15:00 ET / 16:00 AT / 16:30 NF

The game of the century! Or at least the tournament, to the winners go the spoils.

Ontario have made two changes, rotating Hank McQueen into the second row, with Scott Dunham moved to the bench, and a slight surprise sees Lucas Rumball get the nod on the flank, but in the no7 jersey in place of Alistair Clark. Aaron Carpenter continues to build his match fitness in the no6 jersey, with Ray Barkwill retained at hooker.

The Pack have also resisted change, with only one alteration to the starting side. Canada ‘A’ winger Duncan Maguire moves to the starting lineup, with Graham Turner dropped to the bench. Dustin MacPherson is also included in the reserves at the expense of Adam McQueen.

The two sides split their matches last season, the Blues winning 28-3 at Ellerslie Park, and the Wolf Pack taking an upset 29-26 victory in Peterborough, but ultimately losing the title to the Blues on bonus points.

Ontario have won the MacTier Cup for the past four consecutive seasons.
