Former Eagles prop Chris Baumann signs for San Diego

Chris Baumann will play in Major League Rugby for the first time in 2021. The 33-year-old tighthead prop has signed for the San Diego Legion after being conspicuously absent during the past three seasons.

A fan-favorite with his signature mullet and moustache combination, Baumann made his test debut in 2015 at the relatively late age of 28. He played three games for the Eagles at the Rugby World Cup later that year, and would earn 25 caps through his last against Canada in 2018.

Baumann is well traveled in rugby circles having played for Randwick in Australia, Wellington in New Zealand, and Leicester Tigers in England. He joins Cronan Gleeson and Aaron Mitchell as tighthead options for San Diego, and serves as a direct replacement for Hencus van Wyk who opted to stay in Japan after initially signing for the Legion in December.
