Colombia Cruise Past Brazil in Medellín

Colombia cruised past Brazil in Medellín this afternoon. Las Tucanes produced a surprisingly comfortable victory against As yards, winning 28-7 in the first ever women’s rugby test match between the countries.

The out of sorts Brazil were packed with regular names from the Sevens side and it showed. In the scrum and additional areas of the set-piece the Colombians were able to take control.

Opening the scoring was Rafaela Zenellato. The Brazilian inside center cut through the defense tomscore the official first ever try in match between Brazil and Colombia. Fly half Raquel Kochhann added the conversion to give Brazil a 7-0 lead.

The dream start for Brazil would not be replicated further. Instead Colombia would play the better rugby and not concede additional points at all.

Laura Diosa Mejía, Carolina Naranjo, Sharon Acevedo, and Leidy García all scored tries for Las Tucanes. The first of these underlined Colombia’s superiority in the scrum while the third was a great piece of play with Sharon Acevedo breaking the line to score an impressive try.
