Chris Brown and Mike Friday earn World Rugby awards

Two USA coaches have been recognized by World Rugby at the end of the 2018-19 HSBC Sevens Series. Having led their respective teams to record 2nd overall finishes, Chris Brown and Mike Friday have each been handed Coach of the Series in their respective divisions.

Brown formally took charge of the Women’s Eagles in October, having previously served as an assistant under Friday with the Men’s program. In just his first season as Head Coach, Brown led his team to their highest ever finish, automatic qualification for the 2020 Olympics, and their first ever Cup Final victory just this past weekend in Biarritz.

This past season was the most successful for Friday, his fifth at the helm of the Men’s Eagles. The runner-up finish equaled his personal high achieved while coaching England in 2005-06. Friday’s Eagles won their home tournament in Las Vegas and never finished lower than 4th to also claim their spot at Tokyo 2020.

While Olympic Qualification is now out of the way and the 2018-19 season has come to an end, the two coaches will not be sitting idly in the coming weeks. Preparations will soon begin for the Pan-Am Games which are taking place between July 26-28 in Lima, Peru.
