Ohio crush Sacramento in Obetz

Ohio blitzed Sacramento at Memorial Park on Sunday, scoring five first half tries to put the game beyond doubt before the intermission. The win puts Ohio back on the winning track with their sights firmly set on undefeated league leaders Denver.

An early penalty goal from Mirco Bergamasco but Sacramento into the lead, but it was one-way traffic for the remainder of the opening 40 minutes. The Ohio attack, spearheaded by their outstanding back row, completely overwhelmed the Sacramento defense. All three of Filippo Ferrarini, and Sebastián Kalm were on the scoreboard in the first half, with Hughston doubling up early in the second.

Sacramento got over the tryline twice after break with Nemia Qoro and Kyle Sumsion both finding the paint, but two scorching runs from Spike Davis down the right wing brought up the half century for Ohio. Shaun Davies added five conversions with JP Eloff’s injury absence proving no hindrance as Robbie Shaw stepped in to play a commendable role at no10.

The two teams will both be on the road next weekend, albeit at slightly different distances. Sacramento head south to face the potent San Diego backline, while Ohio take the long journey back to California to take on the winless San Francisco at Boxer Stadium.
