Record-setting day for AJ MacGinty in Champions Cup

Sale Sharks have qualified for the Quarter Finals of the Champions Cup after thumping Scarlets by a final score of 57-14 in the Round of 16 on Sunday. It sets a new mark for points scored in European competition by Sale, and also saw a new individual points record for the club from AJ MacGinty.

The US Eagles flyhalf scored 32 points with one try and a flawless display of kicking. MacGinty was 11 from 11 off the tee converting all six tries and adding five penalty goals. It sets a new Sale record for most points in the professional era, defeating the previous record of 28 set by Danny Cipriani in 2013.

Next up for the Sharks will be a road match against French side La Rochelle at Stade Marcel Deflandre next weekend. It’s the second time the club have made the Quarter Finals of the top level of European competition, the first in 2006. They are two-time champions of the second-tier Challenge Cup.
