Uruguay found form to finish off their Americas Rugby Championship (ARC) campaign on a high. The Uruguay XV were 41-12 winners over Paraguay in the early Sunday afternoon battle between the teams in Chile. The result sees the Uruguay finishing the ARC in third and Paraguay in fourth.
The first-half was an even battle with two tries each. Fullback Joaquín Mussi opened the scoring with a converted try for Paraguay on seven minutes. The Uruguay XV responded through winger Ignacio Álvarez Akiki for an unconverted try. The teams both added one more try each in the second quarter. Hooker Jordi Chávez scored for Paraguay and center Juan Manuel Alonso for the Uruguay XV.
The Uruguay XV scored all of the second-half points. It took them out to a 41-12 victory. Germán Kigel, Juan Manuel Alonso, Justo Ferrario (2) and Manuel Diana crossed for tries.
As was the case against both the Chile XV and the Argentina XV, the Uruguay XV played in their alternate colors of yellow rather than sky blue. Paraguay played in their regular colors of white and red hoops.
The match took place at the Estadio Elías Figueroa Brander in Valparaíso. It was uncapped due to Uruguay playing as their next-of-XV. However, the majority of the Uruguayan line-up are commonly in test teams, i.e. Mateo Perillo, Reinaldo Piussi, Ignacio Péculo (played out of position), Felipe Aliaga, Manuel Diana, Santiago Álvarez, Ignacio Álvarez Akiki, Joaquín Súarez, and Juan Manuel Alonso.
