Argentina XV Power Past Suspension Hit Uruguay XV

The Argentina XV powered past the suspension hit Uruguay XV on Wednesday. The match was a second round fixture in the 2026 Americas Rugby Championship (ARC). The Argentina XV were 58-10 winners, outscoring their Rio de la Plata neighbors by ten tries to two.

The Argentina XV scored all of the first-half points. They did so to take a 29-0 lead into the break with a bonus point secured. It saw them improving on their opening round performance against Paraguay wherein they were kept quiet for much of the first half before massive improvement to win 58-11.

The Argentina XV held a 57-0 lead at one point in the contest. The opening score was in the left corner with flanker Felipe Villagrán getting a fortunate bounce of the ball to score from a cross-kick. Teammate Luciano Avaca missed the bounce but he scored the next try and went on score a hat-trick.

Avaca’s opening score came on 10 minutes. It was in a similar spot to VIllagrán’s try and was a gift after center Bautista Estellés put him over untouched. Then, six minutes later, Avaca scored his second and again did so in the left corner. This time flanker Tomás Dande provided the try assist.

The second quarter opened with Franco Rossetto scoring the bonus point try for the Argentina XV. Rossetto entered from fullback after the forwards had a foothold deep inside the Uruguay XV’s defensive 22. The final score of the half followed five minutes later with Bautista Estellés over under the posts.

It took thirteen minutes of the second half for scoring to resume. Tomás Dande scored down the left side after good enterprising play from the Argentina XV. Rodrigo Fernández Criado was the next to score. The captain sliced through to score under the posts.

Then came the best try of the match. The Uruguay XV overthrew an attacking lineout deep inside Argentina XV territory. A counter-attack resulted with Dande running up field before finding Avaca to put on the afterburners and complete his hat-trick.

Franco Rosseto scored next, claiming his second try of the afternoon. He showed good speed and strength to get through down the right side.

The remaining fifteen minutes saw the Uruguay XV scoring two tries and the Argentina XV one. Replacement hooker Sebastián Pérez scored from a lineout to maul move while No. 8 Manuel Diana showed good strength to get the ball down.

The final score came after a break from replacement Argentina XV prop Diego Correa. He passed the ball off the floor and found a support runner in replacement scrum-half Alejo Sugasti.

The Argentina XV face the Chile XV in the final round of the 2026 ARC. The Uruguay XV take-on Paraguay in their remaining match. The Uruguay XV need to beat Paraguay in order to avoid the wooden spoon.
