Uruguay were no match for South Africa at the Junior World Championship on Saturday. The Junior Springboks showed that their u20 system is world class as they completed a 104-7 victory over Los Teritos in Tbilisi.
There were seventeen tries scored in the contest with the Junior Springboks scoring sixteen of them. It took little time for the scoring to begin as Stormers center Markus Muller crossed on 7 minutes for South Africa. It continued with the Junior Springboks holding a 50-0 lead at half-time.
South Africa’s superiority did more than result in points, it also forced Uruguay to making some poor decisions. One outcome was the yellow carding of Peñarol hooker Sebastian Pérez. Tries came with Pérez watching from the sidelines.
The second-half did not see changes in terms of the flow of the match. The replacements came on to only add to the dominance of the Junior Springboks. Both Jordan Steenkamp and Risima Khosa completed hat-tricks for the Junior Springboks. Jayden Brits also impressed with a double.
Uruguay’s only try of the match came with the match-clock into the red. Replacement prop Sebastián Dalmao Rivero scored and replacement play-maker Juan Francisco Pereira converted.
The teams will play for the second time in the tournament on Tuesday. South Africa take-on Wales while Uruguay will be up against tournament hosts, Georgia.
