Dogos Overcome Yacare to Comfortably Finish Top of Regular Season

Los Dogos overcame Yacare on Friday to comfortably finish the regular season at the top of the standings. Los Cordobeses won with a bonus point while denying the visitors from Paraguay. The 48-20 result closes a regular season for Los Dogos who enter the play-offs as favorites.

Despite the final score being tilted decisively in favor of Los Dogos, it was a competitive match in the opening half. Los Dogos scored first through man of the match, Alejandro Ponce. The hooker’s 7th minute score was the first of three scores.

Yacare responded through fly half Valentino Quattrochi. He landed a penalty before converting a runaway try scored by winger Juan González. It meant that the contest was well and truly alive.

Los Dogos added two additional first-half tries to lead the match 19-10 at half-time. The tires were stored by right winger Agustin De Vertiz and Ponce claimed his second just before the half-time siren.

The second-half saw Los Dogos seizing control of the match. The forwards were on top and opportunities came as a result. Yacare’s discipline was also an issue with penalties conceded and the team twice losing a player to a yellow card.

Agustín de Vertiz added to his opening half score with his second of the match. The 47th minute score was followed by Ponce completing his hat-trick, a try to replacement Constantino Keller and a double to replacement hooker, Ramiro Iglesias Quintana.

The one blemish was the goal-kicking; Los Dogos had 50% accuracy at attempted conversions. This included inaccuracy from Puma, Nicolás Roger who was a replacement.
