Montpellier with Argentina and Canada Connection Win Challenge Cup

Montpellier are the 2026 European Challenge Cup Champions. The French Top 14 club completed a comprehensive 59-26 victory over Ulster in Bilbao, Spain to lift the trophy on Friday.

The victory saw Montpellier lifting the Challenge Cup for the third time. The club also won the Challenger Cup in 2016 and 2021.

The 2026 title comes with an Argentine and a Canadian connection. Domingo Miotti was the starting fly half for Montpellier while Tyler Duguid played second-row. Justo Piccardo also came away as a Challenge Cup winner but he was forced to miss the final through injury.

Miotti scored 10 points in the final. His points were all goal-kicks as he successfully converted five tries. His form throughout the season in the Challenge Cup and in the Top 14 suggests a recall to Los Pumas may be on the table. This would see he and club-mate, Justo Piccardo together on the roster as Piccardo is assured of his place on the roster.

Both Miotti and Piccardo have Rugby World Cup 2027 ambitions as does Tyler Duguid. However, Duduid will not be playing for his native Canada. Despite being Canadian born and raised, Duguid was poached by France and made his debut against New Zealand last July.
