Os Cobras have added to their roster mid-season. The Brazilian Super Rugby Americas (SRA) franchise has confirmed the recruitment of three foreign players to bolster their roster. The new players are two Canadians and a South African.
25-year-old hooker Austin Creighton arrives from Canada as does 24-year-old scrum-half / fly half Ethan Turner. Creighton is a fully capped international and a player who is on the radar to compete for Canada at Rugby World Cup 2027. He played for Canada this past November.
The new arrival from South Africa is Vincent Brits. The 20-year-old plays second-row and joins from the Sharks u20 system.
The arrival of the trio comes after months of talks between Brasil Rugby, World Rugby and Rugby Canada over the possibility of opportunities for Canadian players to help develop options as Rugby World Cup 2027 draws closer.
Creighton and Turner will not be the only Canadian players in SRA. They follow Peñarol’s recruitment of four Canadian players. The arrival of Noah Flesh, Foster Dewitt, Ethan Fryer and James Thiel also came at the request of World Rugby. Flesch, Dewitt and Fryer are all capped by Canada.
