Pumas Recall Rookie and Veteran for Final Round of Rugby Championship

Los Pumas travel from Durban, South Africa to London, England for the final round of the 2025 Rugby Championship. The Americas no 1 take on the world no 1 Springboks in the neutral territory of Twickenham Stadium to close out the Rugby Championship on Saturday, October 04.

 

ROSTER CHANGES

Felipe Contepomi has two lost first-choice players. Scrum-half Gonzalo García and fly half Tomás Albornoz were unable to finish the match against South Africa in Durban. García was stretchered off while Albornoz limped off with a hamstring injury as Argentina played the final ten minutes with 14 players.

García’s spot on the roster has gone to veteran Gonzalo Bertranou. The leading back from Major League Rugby 2025 is now on the Rugby Championship roster for the first time in 2025. He joins rookies Simón Benítez Cruz and Agustín Moyano to give Contepomi three scrum-halves for the final fixture of the Rugby Championship.

Albornoz’s spot on the roster has gone to rookie Nicolás Roger. The Tarucas fly half debuted for Lops Pumas against England in July and had his first test start against Uruguay. His inclusion means Contepomi could play him or opt for a utility player instead. Santiago Carreras filled-in for Albornoz when he was out with a broken hand. Gerónimo Prisciantelli is another utility option as ie fullback Juan Cruz Mallía. Prisciantelli debuted against Australia earlier this month.
