Dogos Show why they are Champions against the Rookie Tarucas

Los Dogos showed why they are the defending Super Rugby Americas Champions. Los Cordobeses came back from an early 10-0 deficit to convincingly defeat the rookie Tarucas in Tucumán on Friday. The 43-29 victory sees additional changes to the standings in the run-in to the play-off’s.

MATCH NOTES
  • Nicolás Roger opened the scoring with a penalty in Los Tarucas’ first attack in the opposition’s half.
  • 3-0 became 10-0 as Roger took a quick-tap from a penalty five meters in front of his team’s posts. Roger ran left and Simón Benitez Cruz scored 95 meters away. The scrum-half is arguably on the Pumas’ radar this year.
  • Another stand-out performer this season is Juan Bautista Baronio. He slotted two penalties after the try. With three further penalties in the second-half and four conversions he scored 23 points.
  • Franco Rossetto scored Los Dogos’ only first half try.
  • Penalties to Baronio and second-half tries to Lautaro Cipriani, Juan Lovell and Genaro Fissore put Los Dogos in total control.
  • Two yellow cards to Tarucas’ forwards made it harder for the rookies. In addition, Aitor Bildosola, Valentín Cabral, and Genaro Fissore all carried well for Los Dogos.
  • Despite their discipline problems, Los Tucumanos were able to fight back. Thiago Sbrocco scored early in the half while Juan Manuel Vivas and Ignacio Cerrutti also both scored.
  • Los Dogos claimed a bonus point win for the maximum five competition points on the line.
  • Los Tarucas came away with one competition point. The team is now level with Selknam in 5th spot.
  • Los Dogos move level with Los Pampas at the top of the table. Los Pampas host Selknam on Monday.
