Canada has lost Logan Weidner to Romania. The second-rower / flanker has been named to start for Romania against Georgia in Sunday’s the Rugby Europe Championship match in Tbilisi.
Weidner was born and raised in North Vancouver, BC, Canada. A product of Carson Graham Secondary School, he was identified as a promising player at a young age and played for Canada at both u18 and u20 levels. He turned-down an invitation to train with Canada’s senior roster in 2025.
The 24-year-old is eligible to play for not only Canada but also additional countries. He was identified as a possible USA Eagles player; indeed, in addition to playing for Canada u20’s, Weidner played for USA u20’s too. He was eligible to represent the USA via his father who is from Iowa.
Notwithstanding, in a twist, Weidner has opted against playing for both Canada and the USA. His senior men’s international debut will instead come in Europe with him pulling on the Romanian jersey against Georgia. He qualifies for Romania via ancestry.
Weidner played Major League Rugby (MLR) for Old Glory DC (2024-2025) and for Anthem on loan in 2024. His move to MLR actually resulted in speculation that he would become a USA Eagles player. His move to MLR came after previously playing in France for the Brive and Narbonne academies.
