New Twist in Super Rugby Americas as Yacare Upset Pampas

There has been a new twist in Super Rugby Americas 2025 as Yacare upset Los Pampas in Asunción on Saturday. The 32-26 victory lifts the Paraguayan side into the Top 4. With it there is a scramble for 4th spot as Yacare are on 25, Selknam 24 and Los Tarucas 23 points. Only three rounds remain in the regular season.

MATCH NOTES
  • The win marked Yacare’s first ever victory over Los Pampas.
  • Yacare outscored Los Pampas by four tries to one.
  • Estanislao Renthel opened the scoring with a penalty for Los Pampas. Puma Justo Piccardo broke three tackles for the game’s first try.
  • The turning point followed. Yacare rebounded from 10-0 deficit to score tries through winger Juan González and center Valentino Dicapua. They led 15-12 at halftime.
  • González broke down the left to help set-up the next try scored by Paraguayan flanker Ariel Núñez.
  • González then went from hero to zero as he was yellow carded for slapping down a pass which saw referee Damian Schneider awarding Los Pampas a penalty try.
  • Argentine Santiago Ruiz score the bonus point try for Yacare, doing so from a maul.
  • Estanislao Renthel kicked four penalties in total. They were crucial in Los Pampas finishing with a losing bonus point.
  • Yacare have an optimal opportunity as securing five more points next week as they host the winless Cobras.
  • Los Pampas will look to rebound at home against Selknam who are counting the costs of battle in Tucumán.
